The art of persuading people
Depending on their existing point of view persuading someone can vary in difficulty. It can be fairly easy to persuade them to your way of thinking if they’re unsure about something but it can become a real challenge if they think the complete opposite to you. There are certain techniques and methods which can be used to change their way of thinking and persuade them to what you believe in.
Think about who it is you’re talking to as it will help you to get into their way of thinking. Understanding a situation from their perspective will help you to realise why it is that they think what they do. When you’re aware of why they think or believe what they do it makes it easier to find flaws in their perspective which can work to your advantage.
It’s important to listen to what the person is saying so that you can respond with a constructive argument rather than just an argument. People respond better to someone who listens to what it is they’re saying as well rather than someone who refuses to see their side of the argument.
Don’t attempt to mislead them or lie to them so be truthful as otherwise it will make it next to impossible if you’re found out to be lying. An important part of trying to persuade someone is trust as they are more likely to agree with things if they know the person is telling them the truth.
Be prepared and offer evidence which is seamless as to why they should be taking your point of view. You are more likely to get them to agree with you completely if you can get them to agree with all the smaller things so try to fill in any gaps where they might be able to show that their idea is superior. Providing evidence of how your point of view will benefit them more than their existing point of view is the single most important thing.
