Anyone who has ever struggled with being depressed knows that it’s a serious condition, and it is difficult to ever fully overcome it. There are many patients who have undergone a hypnosis treatment for depression and found themselves able to overcome depressing thoughts afterwards. Learn more about this method of curing mental illness to see just how effective it is.

There are many people out there who haven’t heard a lot about being treated by having a professional hypnotize you. If you’re new to the idea, you should know that you don’t have to feel intimidated by this form of therapy; there’s nothing mystical about it. All that it is is a process of being led into a state of relaxation, just like drifting off in a daydream.

A lot of people shy away from the idea of being hypnotized for therapy because they don’t want a ‘hypnotist’ treating them. It might put your mind at ease to know that there’s a big difference between this and a hypnotherapist, who conducts hypnotherapy sessions. A hypnotists has only passed a course to receive his or her certification; a hypnotherapist, on the other hand, is a licensed health professional.

While a patient is in this relaxed, dreamlike state, the therapist will guide him or her through a series of techniques designed to counteract depressing thoughts. These will help the patient overcome these kinds of thoughts and feelings in the session. They can also be used anytime after to counter bad feelings.

Many health professionals are seeing the benefits of using hypnotherapy to treat patents who are clinically depressed over prescription medications. Anti-depressant drugs tend to only mask the symptoms but not fix the overall problem. Hypnotherapy often causes patients to confront longstanding bad feelings and overcome the roots of their depression.

You don’t have to worry about losing control of yourself in this process. Patients have the opportunity and ability to opt out whenever they want to. You might feel yourself becoming immersed in the meditative state, but that’s only because you’re feeling so relaxed.

You can find hypnosis treatment for depression in more and more places nowadays, because this type of therapy is proven to be very effective. There is no risk, and you can back out whenever you want. Anyone who’s ever struggled with being depressed should really consider undergoing a session of hypnotherapy to at least give it a try.

Learn more about hypnosis. Stop by Cheryl Austin’s site where you can find out all about hypnosis treatments and what it can do for you.

Ok does empathy have a place in hypnotherapy?

Ok does empathy have a place in hypnotherapy?

The quick answer is no it has no place . Lets start with a definition of empathy. “Empathy- the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.” Dictionary.com

I would like to clear up the definition above a little it asserts, “the intellectual identification with someone else” Well even doing this is going to cause a person to dig thru their own experiences, then envisage what it might be like to be someone else having those experiences. You can’t do this with out manufacturing the emotions and feelings that person might be feeling so I don’t agree with this part of the definition.

So to be empathic we need to feel what the other person feels to truly understand them, to empathise with them. Well this is laden with risk as a hypnotherapist my clients often come with lots of complaint, one thing that is critical in all of this is they are usually in very painful emotional states. Of course , that’s what has pushed them to come to see me for hypnotherapy to begin with.

Some of the emotional states that will make up the state of clients is anxiety, depression, anger, fear, loneliness etc It is generally a mixture of these feelings they’re generally at extraordinarily intense levels. So lets go along the way of empathising! If we do that we must feel what they feel and after we do that how well do you really think we’ll be able to help them? For example a few of the people I have seen are on the border of a panic attack! Do you really think that could be a good state to be in to help some one?

During the past I’ve had clients who’ve impacted my state where it has now begun to become an issue with me, to the point that I cannot do my job correctly because when you’re feeling badly enough you go inside to handle it. The emotion basically distracts you and places you in a state where your judgement is skewed.

For example you can focus on 7 +- 2 pieces of info per second consciously, you may also pay attention to 11 million pieces of info per second subconsciously. So what happens is you use all your capacity for helping the client with dealing with your anxiety fear and so on. Its like you are on a freeway in peak hour traffic, it is choked fender to fender so you can’t do anything just traveling hardly at 5 kmph. The other side is that you are relaxed and chilled its like their is few vehicles of the free way and you can zoom around at 100 kmph. So you’ve a heap of mental resources to use to pay attention to the customer, what they are saying, what they do body language and so on. So that you can work out the most effective way to assist them.

Also when you are in a condition of fear you process things differently, you also concentrate on different things, while you are in a condition of being relaxed and chilled you’ll process things completely differently again also focusing on different things and coming to different conclusions and judgements. So when you’re relaxed and calm you are more likely to see what is actually their in front of you and not skewed by fear.

So when it comes down to empathy with a client it is a no no!! You need to keep your self in a state where you can do your job, to the best of your ability while shielding your self from feeling shit and moving into these negative states. I have met other health practitioners who do this and then complain they feel depressed and anxious etc all the time, they cannot understand why! It is easy they empathise with several clients each day they work going into the negative states of the clients and over a period of time this builds up because they’re in these negative states so often , while working while at home for example.

Now to digress a bit I am sure you have talked to some one, buddy, relation and they dump all their shit on you! Then you feel like shit they have also done this several times to the point at which you are starting to avoid this person. Everyone knows some one like this that causes us to avoid or spend as little time in their company as possible. Why because they simply make you feel bad, so I would also advocate that you never do this to people you know like pals, family etc because you’ll make them feel bad, I’d also have a tendency to change the topic if others try and do this with you protect yourself by all means. Yes I know this is a traditional way folks connect and begin to know each other gaining trust,. Nevertheless it comes at a cost and their are alternative routes to connect with folk than doing this so limit this behavior as much as is possible.

Fascinating question as a hypnotherapist practicing hypnotherapy I've got a different view on this than others may have.

Fascinating question as a hypnotherapist practicing hypnotherapy I’ve got a different view on this than others may have.

First off allow me to say I practice it and it works for me! Asserting that I’m an NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapist so I do lots of work on my self in alternative ways to improve my life and positive thinking is just one facet of it.

When it comes to my clients well I have got to say that positive thinking just does not work the way that my clients have used it, permit me to explain. The clients I see have issues along the line of depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness, low self worth and other stuff no matter why they come to see me for these make up the key elements of their problem.

Customarily at some specific point in the past they have been introduced to positive thinking to help with their issues either by them-self or other health practitioners. The problem arises as they practice this they’ve still got the same issues as before and they’re still doing in their head what hey have always done to form the depression, anxiety for example. While the new positive thinking is a conscious effort the old Problems are a unconscious process which has been going for decades normally.

So what I find happens with them is they make a new trance or state on top of the old one, ultimately it becomes unconscious mind process as well with time. A way to consider it is well imagine that we are similar to an onion and we have layers to us, the old problems are a bunch of layers of the onion toward the middle while the new positive layer is a new layer of the onion on the outside that sits on top of all the old stuff.

So when I see clients I am going to ask them stuff like how do you feel about the past, future, your spouse, children , parents, and yourself to name 1 or 2. Remembering they came for an issue that is causing them a lot of discomfort. They’ll say stuff like, I’m satisfied, everything is good, my relationship is great. As they say these answers I can see they are lying not at a conscious level because consciously they sort of believe this, its like they have got a split personality when they give positive answers this is due to the fact that that is what you should think and say from one viewpoint! While on the other hand at the exact same time they know they’re distressed, they are effectively in 2 minds. We all pick up on this all the time when some one tells us something and we do not believe it, they’re saying one thing consciously while at the same time they are saying subconsciously through body language something else. This is what I’m picking up on when they’re lying to me.

In this case the positive thinking doesn’t work because it creates ambiguity! On one hand the individual is unhappy and on the other they’re saying they’re not and it complicates the action of helping them. I need to know how they feel about their life, so I know precisely what we need to address so I can help them but they on one had say they are depressed and then on the other answer all other questions as if they haven’t any Problems while at a unconscious level they’re sending a completely different message.

Now what I suspect these clients are doing is utilizing the positive thinking in a way to try to hide from their Problems, like people use drugs, alcohol, food etc. Also a key component to positive thinking is you have to manifest positive feelings with the thoughts!! If you do not well it’ll never works regardless of how much you do it! Ultimately positive thinking needs to lead to positive feelings. I believe that’s the thing they do when they are using positive thinking they are manifesting depression, anxiety, or negative feelings with the thoughts instead of positive feelings.

Another element of this is I believe they also need to do the work to release all the self-destructive thoughts, principles and particularly emotions they have stored in their body/mind. Once this is done I think positive thinking can work, because they will then be able to manifest positive feelings to go with the practice. As for people who are not suffering from any real destructive feelings impacting their life, I haven’t any idea how it works for them. Though I’ll guess that if they manifest positive feelings in the act then it should work for them as well. I’ve only actually addressed issues I’ve found with my clients.

So I believe that positive thinking usually does not work for the great majority of people and can be a waste of time. The reason Why I say this Is often because most people don’t know how to do positive thinking and they do not have any real guidance on the way to use it. Almost all of the people I know who’ve recommended this as a practice to my clients don’t practice it them self, so what does this say for the practice of positive thinking?

There are many different ways to relieve stress, but trusting to science you’re going to learn about some incredible ways that deal directly with the brain. Through Unexplainable Store, you’re going to learn about what sound can actually mean to you, and how it can affect your emotions.

What you’ll discover through binaural audio, is that you can actually help to stimulate certain emotions and states of being through the right sounds. That’s what this store actually sells you.

But how effectively does this actually play out? What are you going to find when it comes time to make this audio work? Well you will discover that it literally can alter your brain waves.

You’ll be amazed, and in fact trying everything that the Unexplainable Store has to offer is a big part of the fun. But you really have to take that fist step, go out on a limb, and see how this can literally change your life.

There are many ways that binaural audio can impact the brain. The brain is a truly amazing thing as well, because it’s able to do all sorts of things within the body that don’t really seem possible otherwise.

You have to lay back, get some great headphones, and really just see how they can open up your world, and where they are going to take you. That can be difficult at times, and sometimes it may require more patience than you actually have.

Any Unexplainable Store review will tell you that they provide this type of music. They are going to give you everything that you need so that you can actually improve the quality of your relaxation.

You’ve just got to realize that Unexplainable Store reviews can’t really do the store justice. You’ve got to understand that there’s so much here, you really just have to experience the store for yourself.

Well there are a couple of things you can look for when selecting a hypnotherapist Below is a guide on what to ask and look for it’s not a rule that they must have all only a guide to finding a Hypnotherapist. You will doubtless find few that fit all of the criteria below and the more you can tick off the better for you.

Certificate of business registrationHave they registered a business with the most relevant government bodies. This goes with out pronouncing they need to be registered with the government as a business if they are not I would keep away from them.

Do they sound and appear professional? Do they accept EFTPOS, Credit card transactions?

Having an EFTPOS Machine is important if they do it suggests they have got a business account with a bank and are registered with the govt. as a business so they are probably going to be bonafide and trusty.

Where do they work from?

Hypnotherapist will work from one or two different locations, Medical Centre, Natural Medical Centre, Serviced residences and their home. A lot of hypnotherapists will home work to reduce cost and make things simpler on them self i.e. Work life balance. So this won’t generally tell you if they’re professional.

What does their practice room look like and how will they conduct them self is the main things that you’re going to be able to notice that will tell you how professional they are.

Have they got an internet site and an email using their company name? For example do they use a google email address of an address that has the name of business in the address section i.e. Infosynergyhypnotherapymelbourne.com.au

Qualifications

What have they studied and graduated from or got licensed as. Examples NLP Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner, NLP Trainer Tutor, Hypnotherapy, life coaching and so on. How long have they been studying? Do they continue learning and develop them self in Hypnotherapy, NLP and so on. ?

Here I’d counsel you find somebody who has both education in NLP and Hypnotherapy they will be much better at helping you, than someone who is just qualified in Hypnotherapy.

Do they belong to an association or peak body?

While this is good to have it is not a deal wrecker because these organizations are not monitored or registered with the gov so being an affiliate doesn’t customarily mean that much. Also , I’ve met some folks that are members and have found them to be really bad at Hypnotherapy. Also individuals who are members of these associations tend not to be trained in NLP.

How long have they been working as a hypnotherapist?

Well this goes with out saying the longer they have been practicing and working as a Hypnotherapist the more practice they’ve had the better at their job they should be.

How much work have they done on them-self?

Have they ever tried their Hypnotherapy and NLP etc on them self to help them self with their own issues or challenges. If they have not then I wouldn’t use them the sign of a good Hypnotherapist is that they use it all the time on them self to help in developing and improve them self if they don?t, well they do not have a genuine good knowledge of Hypnotherapy and how emotions/feelings and unconscious mind works. Would you hire some one as a personal trainer who is fat and has no qualification as a personal trainer and never trains them self? I do not believe so.

Do they teach?

This is good to have because they’re going to have much better experience of hypnotherapy, NLP etc if they are teaching and would be better at applying the tools and techniques in different circumstances with different folks.

How much do they charge?

The price a Hypnotherapist charges gives you an understanding as to how good they believe that they are! So if they charge $100-$200 they almost certainly aren’t very confident in their ability and will also likely want you to come back for multiple sessions. So it can add up fast.

If they charge $300-$500 well then you may be more assured they’re confident in there ability to help you, they’re also likelier to have just one session or two max for the one price or the second session is at a lowered rate like $100.

Ideally you ought to be having a look at paying rather more for the service, the old proverb goes ?You get what you pay for? After all how much is it worth to you to get your issue fixed permanently?

How many sessions do they require?

The number of sessions will give you an indication as to how confident they’re in there ability to help. The more sessions they require with you usually. Indicates they aren’t very good at what they are doing and are doubtless a behavioural hypnotherapist.

Do they seek the cause of the behavior vs just the behavior it self? Now their are a small number of different sorts of hypnotherapists one is a behavioural hypnotherapist, they will address the behaviour only. While others will ask what is the reason for this behavior and try to find the explanations why this behaviour is manifesting.

Do you really think if I treated a customer for the behavior of booze problems and that was a complete success! A year later I ran into them and they said that they had not touched a drop since, but now they’re doing cocaine! Do you really think I achieved the right outcome for them? Technically I did because they are not drinking so I stopped the behaviour! But well the reason for the behavior is still there and it came out in an alternative way. So I am attempting to find the cause of your behavior and remove that and the behaviour.

In the past I’ve seen lots of folks that have seen other hypnotherapist for quit smoking hypnosis and it has worked a treat, guess what these folk are now coming to see me for some assistance with? Weight Loss because the reason for the smoking is still there but they can’t smoke so they do something else like eating.

Do they need you to do homework?

Most of the issues you experience that you will seek a hypnotherapist to help you with will be habituated behaviors, feelings/feelings/emotions and thoughts at a unconscious level. So giving you homework won’t typically be of any help to beat the issue. So if a hypnotherapist insists on homework I’d probably have a tendency to avoid them.

As I have claimed this is a guide only but this gives you more things to consider when looking out for a hypnotherapist and finding one that is better than others that may be out there. So good luck and do not forget to ask them the questions above.

Many individuals think that all their Problems started from one or two particular events that occurred to them during the past, they point to them and say that’s why I’m the way I am its not my fault. These events can range from things like rape, molestation, physical abuse, beaten etc. The people then will manifest anxiety, panic episodes, depression etc and may try to deal with them by employing drugs, alcohol or other un-useful behaviors. As a hypnotherapist and doing hypnotherapy with clients this is an important thing to grasp and understand.

So is it significant when all the Problems started at that event during the past? For example people get depressed, anxious, low self worth, hate self etc and make many lasting decisions about them self, when these kind of events happen. For instance they may think they are unlovable, you deserved it, you do not deserve to be content and so on.

So is it significant? Well No and Yes. The event it self isn’t important because that event is over and done with, it will never change irrespective of what we do. Even if it probably did matter we don’t have a time machine to go back in time to mend it! Also let’s be honest the folks that have these issues arn’t abused or hurt in anyway today, that’s anther reason why those events don?t matter. The only thing that actually matters about those events is the way the person felt at that time and what decisions they made.

Lets face it we have many memories most we won’t remember like work, the experience of work is fairly bland the same experience mostly day in day out, so we find it tough to remember what we did 2 days ago in any detail. While other memories stand out in our memory, we think about them easily and they can have happened 30 years ago but the memory is fresh and feels like it happened only a week ago. So whats going on with these memories? Well they generally have a lot of emotions attached to them! Either positive or negative and it’s the emotion that keeps it fresh in our memories and keeps us recalling it easily.

So most clients I see have no issue with the memories that are positive, they’re actually happy about them however when referring to the bad ones they loathe them and think of them all the time. This is thanks to the fact that the emotion draws there attention like a massive fire on a hill it’s easy to see.

Now the thing is you store all of your feelings in your body, these emotions are attached to memories so when you go back to a memory and give it some thought you re-experience the feelings you had the 1st time. Each time you go over a memory you really add a bit more of the same feelings to the memory, so in time you can amp up the intensity level of the feelings attached to those memories, adding more and more layers of those feelings.

Also behaviours can be anchored or attached to these feelings as well , so when people think about that memory they have that feeling and they then do that behavior what ever it may be. The emotions bind the whole sequence together really firmly! So that memory is not truly the problem it’s the way they keep thinking of that memory today and recreating the feelings in side that memory today. Then also doing any of the behaviors triggered from this memory today they’re doing today, in their own head that is what the real problem it is not what occurred 30 years ago.

So if this is true then the event must matter!! Well no it doesn’t actually remember you can’t change the event in any way the trick here is you can change the way that you feel about the memory. Imagine if you were to remove all the destructive emotions from that memory or event what would happen? Well typically what occurs is you get your client to go back in to the memory, and they feel nothing. They have no feelings about the event either way regardless of what happened. I have had one or two experiences where I have treated ladies who’ve been raped! And they’re absolutely in a mess before they came and saw me then after I have worked with them. Now I ask them to return to the memory or the rape and they burst out laughing! It’s a little strange the 1st time, but an excellent thing! They saw that event in a very different way, realising the event had nothing whatsoever to do with them, it wasn’t even about them and they felt sorrowful for the bloke involved.

When you do this kind of work then have these results, any behaviors or feelings that people have today attached to that. Memory they just disappear fully from their life as the emotions were the trigger.

So ultimately the answer to the question is, no the unpleasant events don’t matter at all only how you felt when it happened does and what decisions you made at that point is all that matters. When working with clients like this you can also operate content free meaning you don’t need to know what happened all you need to know is how the person felt at that event.

You know you can think of happy memories and feel the happy emotion, if you let yourself. Just like you can think of a scary or sad memory and feel that emotion.

You know you can think of happy memories and feel the happy emotion, if you let yourself. Just like you can think of a scary or sad memory and feel that emotion.

There is a definite connection between what our memories have stored and how we generally feel. If there is very strong emotion associated with a memory, a person may tend to feel that emotion in some way, constantly, below the surface.

This can cause psychiatric disorders such as post-traumatic stress and depression. It can also cause more basic disruption in your life like fears, phobias and high stress.

The most popular way to deal with these sorts of problems is prescription medication. But, medication only tries to help the ‘symptoms’ instead of treating the ’cause’. Long term results are usually just long term symptom management.

The key to long term help with these issues would appear to be the emotional association with the memory. What would happen if that association could be erased, reduced or even changed?

There is research using a medication called propranolol that can be used as an “amnesia drug”. The purpose is to directly disrupt the connection between our memories and the emotions they are associated with.

Described in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, they talk about psychiatrists at McGill University and Harvard University using the drug to disrupt the memories of trauma victims. The drug reduces the emotional connection with the memory while leaving the conscious part of the memory.

With this process, people still have the memory, but the emotion is reduced or detached. The potential problems with this process, such as permanence or side effects, are not known.

It all seems a little too sci-fi to me, when there are more reliable, established, and safer methods available.

Specifically hypnosis. Proper hypnosis seems more effective for this process since, when you are in hypnosis, you are using the emotional portion of your mind. This is especially true with memories containing strong emotion from childhood. When experiencing memories from childhood will generally ‘feel’ the age you were when you created the memory.

Before using hypnosis techniques to address a strong emotional memory, the hypnotist needs to be appropriately trained. With a trained and experienced hypnotist, the process is reliable, quick and effective.

Addressing issues in this is about gaining real, inner perspective on your past. When this is done, it creates a sense of distance from the memory. A memory that no longer influences how you feel.
